But Roro Jonggrang definitely did not want to marry someone who had murdered her father. So she gave a difficult condition. She told Bandung that she would marry him if he could build one thousand temples in one night. Bandung was surprised but he was optimistic he could meet the condition. He was a powerful king and he had many friends among the genie, giants, and ghost spirits. So he asked them for help. With the help of those invisible beings Bandung built the temples. Meanwhile Roro Jonggrang and her people kept an eye on Bandung. When it was almost dawn Bandung and his troops of ghost had built nine hundred ninety nine temples. Roro Jonggrang was very worried. If Bandung could meet her condition, she had to marry him. Then she had a bright idea. She ordered her servant and her people to make noise and lights. Women were ordered to cook and make noise by hitting kitchen utensils. Men were also ordered to make noise around the temples. Then the genies and ghost thought that daylight had come. They were afraid of the sunlight so they left immediately. Without their help Bandung was unable to finish the temple. Bandung was very angry. He knew that it was a dirty trick from Roro Jonggrang. Then he cursed Roro Jonggrang into a statue. Meanwhile, Loro Jonggrang heard from her servant that the building of a thousand temples was almost finished. She was so worried. But again, she came up with a great idea. She asked all of her servants to help her. “Please prepare a lot of straw and mortar. Please hurry up!” said Loro Jonggrang. “Burn the straw and make some noise pounding the mortar, quickly.” All those servants did what Loro Jonggrang ordered them; burning straw and pounding the mortar, making the genies think that the sun is going to rise. “It’s already dawn. We have to go,” said the leader of the genies to Bandung Bondowoso. All the genies immediately stopped their work and ran for cover from the sun, which they afraid of. They didn’t know that the light was from the fire that burning the straw, not from the sun. Bandung Bondowoso can’t stop the genies from leaving. He was angry. He knew Loro Jonggrang had just tricked him. “You cannot fool me, Loro Jonggrang. I already have 999 temples. I just need one more temple. Now, I will make you the one-thousandth temple.” He pointed his finger to Loro Jonggrang and said some mantras. Magically, Loro Jonggrang’s body turned into stone. Until now, the temple is still standing in Prambanan area, Central Java. And the temple is called Loro Jonggrang temple. Once upon a time, there was a kingdom in Central Java named Baka. It was named after the king, Prabu Baka, who was a man-eating giant. Despite being a giant, the king had a very beautiful daughter named Roro Jonggrang The Slim Girl.The time came when Prabu Baka wanted to expand his territory by conquering the neighboring kingdom, Pengging. The king of Pengging, Prabu Damar Maya, responded and sent his son, Raden Bandung Bandawasa, to defend their Bandung Bandawasa, renowned for his supernatural power, won the war. He managed to kill Prabu Baka. Soon, Baka kingdom fell into the hands of Bandung victory, Bandung Bandawasa entered the palace where Prabu Baka used to live. When he saw Roro Jonggrang, he fell in love. He wanted to marry course, Roro Jonggrang didn't want to marry the man who had killed her beloved father. She refused. However, Bandung Bandawasa persuaded her to marry him. In the end, Roro Jonggrang accepted his marriage proposal with two conditions that seemed impossible to fulfil."I want you to make a well and a thousand temples in just one night. They must be ready before the sun rises tomorrow morning," she demanded. She felt sure that it would be impossible for Bandung Bandawasa to fulfil her requirement and marry Bondowoso agreed. After a few hours, he was able to make a well with his great supernatural power."Done!" he said with satisfaction. "I've finished the well, now the temples. I will ask my genie soldiers and helpers to help me build them."Bandung Bandawasa then summoned genies and ordered them to build one-thousand temples. The genies worked hard and soon, there were able to build nearly 999 that the job was almost completed, Roro Jonggrang panicked. “Marrying Bandung Bondowoso is the last thing I want to do in my life. A few moments, the temple almost reached 1000 temples. Roro Jonggrang was worried knowing Bandung Bondowoso helped by his demons. Many ladies in waiting are mandate to gather stubbles then burned out. The others are commanded to pound rice mortar in order to the cock crowing. So that, troop of demons thought if the sun rose and had to stop. In the morning, Bandung Bondowoso showed to Roro Jonggrang the temple he had built just a night. He shocked when he knew that the temple only 999. Then, he changed Roro Jonggrang as statue to complete the temple. Finally, there were 1000 temples. The temples are called Roro Jonggrang Temple. Bandung Bandawasa was glad to see the temples before him and counted them himself. But to his surprise, there were only 999 temples. Resolution He soon learned the reason of his failure and became very angry. Roro JOnggrang herself was changed into a statue, which stands in the great inner hall of the largest temple and is now know as, “The Temple of Roro Jonggrang’. Parbu Boko wanted to expand his kingdom territory to make his kingdom more powerful and prosperous. Prabu Boko and Patih Gupalo together with whole soldiers marched to the Pengging Kingdom. However, Raden Bandung Bondowoso had prepared his army to defend Pengging kingdom. The huge battle between Keraton Boko and Pengging could not be stopped anymore. Radeng Bandung Bondowoso was fine soldier and commander. Not only strong and powerful, he was also smart in making a strategy to win the battle. Because of Raden Bandung Bondowoso’s strategy, the battle ended quicker than predicted. Keraton Boko’s army was cornered and annihilated. Prabu Boko was also died in the battle. Seeing his army was losing the battle, Patih Gupalo and the remaining soldiers retrieved from the battle and run back to Keraton Boko. However, Raden Bandung Bondowoso knew it. He then decided to hunt them down to the Keraton Boko and caught them. As he arrived in Keraton Boko, Patih Gupalo told everything to princess Roro Jonggrang, including her father death. He also told her that Raden Bandung Bondowoso would come and destroyed Keraton Boko. Roro Jonggrang was sad but she needed to make an action to save her kingdom. Raden Bandung Bondowoso finally arrived in Keraton Boko not long after Patih Gupalo. When he wanted to destroy Keraton Boko to draw out Patih Gupalo, Roro Jonggrang showed herself in front of Raden Bandung Bondowoso. “Stop.. Stop it.. Please stop it. It’s enough.” Roro Jonggrang scream. Raden Bandung Bondowoso stood still. He had just heard the most beautiful voice he had ever heard. He looked at Roro Jonggrang and her beauty chilled his heart. He fell in love with her. “Please stop. It’s enough. Please don’t destroy this kingdom. You’ve killed my father. Should it be enough? Please, end this war. I promise I will take no revenge.” Cried Roro Jonggrang. “You are Roro Jonggrang, the daughter of Parbu Boko, aren’t you? So, the rumor is true. Your beauty is beyond compare. I will end this war right at the moment, but you should be my wife.” Proposed Raden Bandung Bondowoso. Roro Jonggrang did not want to marry Raden Bandung Bondowoso, the man who killed her own father. He had fallen in love with her. With all his strength and power, he summoned genies to help him. He started to make a well then continued to make a thousand temples. He worked so hard. He was sure; he could finish them even before dawn. Worried that Raden Bandung Bondowoso would finish the work. Roro Jonggrang ordered girls to pound rice and burn stubbles in the east as sign that the morning had come. Raden Bandung Bondowoso surprised. He felt that it was not morning yet. He stopped his work and counted the temples. The total temples made were only 999 temples. Roro Jonggrang was happy; Raden Bandung Bondowoso could not finish his job. So she rejected Raden Bandung Bondowoso’s proposal. Raden Bandung Bondowoso smelt something fishy. He believed that it was not morning yet. Knowing Roro Jonggrang lied to him, Raden Bandung Bondowoso was mad. He was mad because Roro Jonggrang did not appreciate what he had done. Angrily, he cursed Roro Jonggrang into a statue to complete his work. Roro Jonggrang then transformed become a stone statue. The statue Roro Jonggrang exists until now in Candi Prambanan site, Central Java. Moral of the story appreciate what someone do to you and never ever lie to them. Radeng Bandung Bondowoso adalah pangeran yang kuat dan sakti. Dia juga adalah prajurit dan komandan yang tangguh yang selalu membawa tentaranya menang di setiap pertempuran. Itu lah mengapa Pengging menjadi kerajaan yang kuat dan sejahtera. Tidak jauh dari kerajaan Pengging, terdapat kerajaan lain yang bernama Keraton Boko. Kerajaan Keraton Boko dipimpin oleh seorang raja bernama Prabu Boko dan patihnya bernama Patih Gupalo. Mereka berdua adalah raksasa pemakan manusia. Walaupun Prabu Boko adalah seorang raksasa, dia memiliki putri yang sangat cantik bernama Roro Jonggrang. Suatu hari, kerajaan Keraton Boko ingin menyerang kerajaan Pengging. Prabu Boko ingin memperluas wilayah kerajaannya untuk membuat kerajaannya lebih kuat dan sejahtera. Prabu Boko dan Patih Gupalo bersama dengan seluruh tentaranya berbaris menuju kerajaan Pengging. Akan tetapi, Raden Bandung Bondowoso telah menyiapkan tentaranya untuk mempertahankan kerajaan Pengging. Pertarungan besar antara Keraton Boko dan Pengging pun tidak bisa dihentikan lagi. Raden Bandung Bondowoso adalah prajurit dan komandan yang tangguh. Tidak hanya kuat dan sakti, dia juga pintar dalam membuat strategi untuk memenangkan peperangan. Karena strategi Raden Bandung Bondowoso pertaruangan berakhir lebih cepat daripada yang diprediksi. Tentara Keraton Boko terpojok dan dihancurkan. Prabu Boko juga tewas dalam pertempuran. Melihat tentaranya kalah dalam perang, Patih Gupalo dan tentara yang tersisa mundur dari peperangan dan kembali ke Keraton Boko. Namun, Radung Bandung Bondowoso mengetahuinya. Dia kemudian memutuskan untuk mengejarnya ke Keraton Boko untuk menangkapnya. Setibanya di Keraton Boko, Patih Gupalo menceritakan semuanya kepada puteri Roro Jonggrang, termasuk kematian ayahnya. Dia juga menceritakan bahwa Raden Bandung Bondowoso akan datang dan menghancurkan Keraton Boko. Roro Jonggrang sedih tetapi dia harus membuat tindakan untuk menyelamatkan kerajaannya. Raden Bandung Bondowoso akhirnya tiba di Keraton Boko tidak lama setelah Patih Gupalo. Ketika dia ingin menghancurkan Keraton Boko untuk menarik keluar Paith Gupalo, Roro Jonggrang menunjukan dirinya di hadapan Raden Bandung Bondowoso. “Hentikan.. Hentikan.. Tolong hentikan. Cukup.” Teriak Roro Jonggrang. Raden Bandung Bondowoso terdiam. Dia baru saja mendengar suara paling indah yang perah dia dengar. Dia menatap Roro Jonggrang dan kecantikannya menyejukkan hatinya. Dia jatuh cinta padanya. “Tolong hentikan. Cukup. Tolong jangan hancurkan kerajaan ini. Kamu telah membunuh ayah saya. Sudah cukup kan? Mohon, akhiri perang ini. Saya janji saya tidak akan membalas dendam.” Tangis Roro Jonggrang. “Kamu Roro Jonggrang, puteri Prabu Boko, bukan? Jadi, rumor itu benar. Kecantikan mu tidak ada bandingnya. Saya akan mengakhiri perang sekarang juga, tetapi kamu harus menjadi isteriku.” Pinang Raden Bandung Bondowoso. Roro Jonggrang tidak ingin menikah dengan Raden Bandung Bondowoso, orang yang telah membunuh ayahnya. Tetapi dia tidak mempunyai pilihan lain untuk menyelamatkan kerajaannya. Jika dia menolak pinangan Raden Bandung Bondowoso, kerajaanya akan dihancurkan dan semua orang akan mati. Tetapi jika dia menerima pinangannya, dia akan akan tinggal seumur hidupnya dengan orang yang telah membunuh ayahnya. Dia berfikir sejenak dan muncul lah sebuah ide. “Saya akan menerima pinangan mu dan menikah dengan mu. Tetapi saya ingin kamu melakukan sesuatu untuk ku. Saya ingin kamu membuat seribu candi dalam satu malam. Jika kamu mampu menyelesaikannya, saya berjanji akan menerima pinangan mu.” Janji Roro Jonggrang. Raden Bandung Bondowoso tidak dapat menolaknya. Dia telah jatuh cinta padanya. Dengan semua kekuatan dan kesaktiannya, dia memanggil jin untuk menolongnya. Dia memulai dengan mengerjakan sumur kemudian berlanjut untuk membuat seribu candi. Dia bekerja begitu keras. Dia yakin dia dapat menyelesaikan pekerjaannya bahkan sebelum subuh. Cemas Raden Bandung Bondowoso akan menyelesaikan pekerjaannya, Roro Jonggrang memerintahkan para gadis untuk menumbuk padi dan membakar jerami di timur sebagai tanda pagi sudah datang. Raden Bandung Bondowoso terkejut. Dia rasa saat itu belum waktunya pagi. Dia menghentikan pekerjaannya dan menghitung candi-candi. Total candi yang dibuat ternyata cuma 999 candi saja. Roro Jonggrang senang; Raden Bandung Bondowoso tidak dapat menyelesaikan pekerjaannya. Jadi dia menolak pinangan Raden Bandung Bondowoso. Raden Bandung Bondowoso mencium ada sesuatu yang tidak benar. Dia percaya bahwa ini belum pagi. Mengetahui Roro Jonggrang berbohong kepadanya, Raden Bandung Bondowoso murka. Dia murka karena Roro Jonggrang tidak menghargai apa yang telah dia kerjakan. Dengan marah, dia mengutuk Roro Jonggrang menjadi patung untuk melengkapi karyanya. Roro Jonggrang kemudian berubah menjadi patung batu. Patung Roro Jonggrang tersebut masih ada sampai sekarang di komplek Candi Prambanan , Jawa Tengah. Moral cerita hargai apa yang telah seseorang buat untuk kamu dan jangan pernah berbohong kepadanya.
